SHAWNEE-The Fort Jennings Musketeers traveled to Lima Shawnee on Saturday night as they looked to get to 2-0 on the young season. The Shawnee Indians used fort court pressure and balanced offense to defeat Fort Jennings 60-14.
The Indians had control from the opening tip as they used a 24-5 run during the first quarter. Fort Jennings had problems with the Indians full court pressure as they had eight turnovers. The Musketeers had their points come from Hannah Grote and Carley Von Sossan with three and two points respectively.
Fort Jennings tried to get back in the second quarter but the balanced scoring and attack from Shawnee put the game out of reach. Hailee Conrad scored 13 of the team’s 20 points in the quarter with nine of those points coming from downtown but the Musketeers got a late bucket from Aubrey Jacomet as the visitors trailed 44-10 at halftime.
The newly implemented running clock was put to work at the six minute mark in the third quarter as Fort Jennings was shutout in the ratherquick quarter. Fort Jennings did hit a shot from deep from Rachel Von Sossan in the fourth quarter but the deficit was too much as the Indians wore down the Musketeers with their full court pressure. Hailee Conrad led all scorers with 18 points while Rachel Von Sossan led the Musketeers with five points.
The Musketeers drop to 1-1 on the season and will be back in action on Tuesday when they hosts LCC.
