ST.MARYS-Spencerville kicked off their 2022 schedule, as they traveled to take on the St.Marys Roughriders. The Roughriders were able to turn Spencerville over 27 times,in their 63-33 victory over the Bearcats.
It was to get out, and run for the hosts, in the opening quarter that resulted in a big lead. Spencerville took their only lead of the game at 3-2, with a three pointer from Claire Hoback, but St.Marys was far from done. A basket from Karsyn McGlothen gave them the final lead change at 4-3 advantage. The Bearcats got within three, at 8-5,on a bucket from Hoback but that was the closest the visitors got in the evening. The Roughriders went on a 20-0 scoring run that resulted in a bunch of Spencerville turnovers, and nine points from Kendall Dieringer that gave them a comfortable 28-5 lead.
St.Marys didn’t stop there, as they outscored Spencerville 16-7 in the second quarter. Gabi Croft netted five points to try to cut the St.Marys deficit, but a balanced scoring attack from the host gave them a 44-12 halftime lead.
Spencerville was the aggressor in the third quarter, as they were able to find success offensively. St.Marys got a basket from McGlothen to lead 46-12, but five straight points from Hoback cut the deficit to 29, at 46-17. The Bearcats were able to trade buckets with the hosts, as the lead was only trimmed to 54-24 after the third quarter.
The reserves were able to play the final quarter, as both teams scored nine points in the quarter as the Roughriders picked up the 63-33 victory.
Spencerville drops to 7-3 on the season, and will be back in action on Thursday when they host the Lincolnview Lancers.
