Bearcats continue to roll against Wildcats

SPENCERVILLE-Spencerville looked to continue their winning ways on Saturday night and make it a clean sweep of the weekend against the Bath Wildcats. Spencerville got off to a quick start to pick up the 72-41 victory.

“They really got after it tonight,” said Spencerville head coach Kevin Sensabaugh. “I was really pleased with how we played tonight and I liked our play much more tonight than last night and we played with much more purpose and energy.”

Spencerville wasted very little time in the opening jump with baskets by Carter Sudhoff, Dylan Smith followed by a three pointer from Owen Sensabaugh that forced a Bath timeout. The lead grew to 11 before Bath got on the board with a basket from Drake Craddock.

The hosts continued to add on with a three point play from Carder Orr after a Josh Henline basket to make it 16-2. The lead was back to 11 but six straight points to end the quarter gave the hosts a comfortable 22-5 advantage.

Both teams traded punches in the second quarter but the Bearcats were still able to extend the lead. Bath scored the first five points before Sudhoff answered inside with a bucket to extend the lead to 24-10. Sudhoff added four more points in the quarter to help the hosts enjoy a 40-18 halftime advantage.

“He is a good basketball player and it’s important to get him going,” Sensabaugh said of Sudhoff. “We like to get him more touches and he’s shooting a tremendous percentage from the field.”

Bath was able to outscore Spencerville in the third quarter but the deficit didn’t dial back much on the scoreboard. Zavier Tickle was able to hit a pair of shots from downtown but the 1-2 punch of Sudhoff and Orr was able to keep the Bearcat lead at 20.

Spencerville fired up the offense in the final quarter to put a major difference on the scoreboard. Henline connected on a pair of three pointers and four points from Sudhoff helped the Bearcats pick up the 72-41 victory.

Spencerville improves to 10-1 on the season for the second year in a row and will visit Lima Central Catholic on Friday.

“I’m glad to get back into a routine with practice and LCC is a good team and I think we are going to have to play well to beat them,” Sensabaugh concluded.

“We are hoping to get Evan (Osting) back and healthy and it’s going to take some time to get him back into shape but I think if we can get healthy we got a pretty good chance.”
