LIMA-For eight minutes on Saturday afternoon it looked like the Ottawa-Glandorf Titans and the Spencerville Bearcats were locked in for a battle. However the Titans couldn’t miss from deep as they cruised to a 78-51 District championship victory.
It was the young stars that kept the Bearcats in the game early. Six straight points from Theo Maag gave the Titans the early lead but a put back from Carter Sudhoff narrowed the lead to 6-2. Spencerville drew within 8-7 on a three pointer from Carder Orr and connected once more to get within 13-10.
Collin White was able to bank in a three pointer to beat the buzzer to give them a 16-10 advantage.
Ottawa-Glandorf turned up the heat in the second quarter and the Bearcats couldn’t find an answer. Baskets by Maag and White stretched the lead to double digits at 20-10 but a three pointer from Owen Sensabaugh cut the lead to 20-13.
Spencerville wasn’t able to connect on a shot the rest of the quarter and what transpired was a back-breaking 15-0 scoring run that changed the game completely.
Hunter Stechschulte gave the Titans a boost with ten points in the quarter including a pair of three pointers to give them a 35-13 lead at halftime.
“It kind of hurt us in the second quarter when Carder (Orr) got that second foul,” said Spencerville head coach Kevin Sensabaugh. “He’s a versatile guy that can help us handle the pressure and when he went out, we weren’t as good.”
Spencerville fought hard in the second half but the Titans continued to find answers. The visitors got within 47-30 on a basket by Carder Orr but it was bombed away from the three point line for the Titans.
White notched 15 points in the quarter and it included three shots from down to make it 59-30.
Spencerville was able to outscore the Titans in the final quarter but the deficit became too much to overcome. Josh Henline led the Bearcats with eight points in the quarter but the game was in the hands of the Titans to put an end on the Bearcats season.
“We are 21-3 and as bad as it feels right now to lose a game like that and to lose the way we lost, it doesn’t take away that we accomplished some pretty cool things this year,” concluded Sensabaugh.
Spencerville finished the season at 21-3 and it was the final game for Seniors Josh Henline, Dylan Smith, and Dylan Cook.
