Jefferson takes NWC tournament, Dealey NWC Player of the Year

DELPHOS-It was a spectacular day for Golf on Thursday morning at Delphos Country Club. The Jefferson Wildcats took home the tournament championship while Crestview’s Matt Dealey won the NWC player of the year award.

The Allen East Mustangs won the regular season title based on the match points earned during the regular season. However the Jefferson Wildcats had something to say in the tournament meet as they piled up 348 which gave them the title over second place Leipsic with a score of 353.

“It’s kind of been the theme all year for our guys,” said Jefferson head coach Shane Gallmeier on having a couple of guys in the top 10. “Isaac (Gallmeier)has been playing well all year and between Brady (DuVall) and Troy (Pseekos) and Mason (Wiltsie) whether it’s Kellen (Carder)  or Trace (Casemier) they kind of pick up the slack.”

The match medalist and the NWC player of the year was Matt Dealey who shot a 74 on the day with Leipsic Brevin Brandt coming in as the runner up with a 76 and Jefferson Isaac Gallmeier coming in third with a 77.

“It means a lot to me to win the player of the year award,” said Dealey. “With me not expecting to do that it made it feel better to win it.”

The next action for the Golf teams is sectional tournament action. Spencerville will take part in the division two sectional at Moose Landing Country Club on Thursday. Crestview will join other NWC foes Leipsic and Columbus Grove at Pike Run Golf Club. Jefferson and Lincolnview will begin play at The Colonial Golfers Club the same day.
