SPENCERVILLE-The Spencerville Bearcats looked for new signs of life on Friday night as they hosted the undefeated and state ranked Leipsic Vikings. The Vikings offense came in waves in the first half en route to a 40-6 victory.
Spencerville took the opening kickoff and marched all the way down the field but was stuffed at the one yard line on a fumble that saw offense take up six minutes off the clock with no points.
“That first drive went about as perfectly as it could go to the very end with self-inflicted wounds which was kind of the story in the first half ,” said Spencerville head coach Kyle Koenig. “It was very positive to see us come out and play like that like we did in the first two weeks and the offensive line was doing a great job and it was something to build off of for sure.”
Leipsic then only needed four plays to reach pay dirt as a 67 yard run by Quin Schroeder gave them the early lead and Schroeder would score one more time in the quarter as a six yard run extended the lead to 13-0.
Spencerville went right back to work on the next drive that saw them get to the 20 yard run before Carder Orr was intercepted that put an end to the impressive drive.
Trent Siefker contributed to the Vikings offense with a 31 yard touchdown run and a 20 yard touchdown catch to put the lead to 27-0 at halftime.
“I thought as much as we improved physically in our offense but it wasn’t as good defensively,” said Koenig. “They still got a pretty good push on us like our middle backers and outside backers were there but just not making the play and we worked on that this week and will continue to work on that and we hope to see some improvement as the season goes on.”
Leipsic was able to get the running clock on a touchdown run by Esteven Carillo to make it 34-0.
Spencerville cracked the scoreboard for the first time in three games with a 15 yard run by Carder Orr to cut into the deficit. A pair of missed tackles led to another touchdown by the Vikings to create the final tally in the contest.
The Bearcats drop to 2-4 on the season and will visit Allen East next Friday.
