SPENCERVILLE-What ended up being a wet night for soccer turned into a very competitive game as the Bearcats hosted Crestview. Audra McMichael in the first half was able to give them a 1-0 victory.
Spencerville was aggressive on offense from the get go as the shots were right on goal but the defense of the Knights were sharp on the night. Thanks to a good pass from Grace Fledderjohn, Audra McMichael went one on one and was able to find the net in what proved to be the difference in the match.
“We haven’t scored too many goals lately so it was good for our girls to score one tonight,” said Spencerville head coach Kathy Goecke. “We had a couple that bounced off the post and they left the middle open a lot and we had more shots than what we normally do in games.”
In the second half the rain began to fall which prevented some offense. There were a total of seven shots in the half by both teams but time was in favor of Spencerville as they got the 1-0 victory.
“I think we are definitely connecting more as a team,” said Goecke. “We are starting to string some passes together and we just keep getting better.”
It was the final home game for seniors Lexie Greer, Grace Goecke, and Kaitlyn Brooks.
“That was probably the best thing,” concluded Goecke on senior night victory. “All of the seniors got to play tonight and they played together in their last time on this field together.”
Spencerville improves to 2-7-4 and will visit Anna on Monday. Crestview drops to 1-8 and will host Jefferson the same night.
