SPENCERVILLE-2 hours and 12 minutes. That’s just how far the Bearcats will travel for Fridays night first round playoff games against the Milan Edison Chargers.
Heading into last week it looked like the Bearcats needed a win against their longtime rival’s Jefferson to reach the postseason. The football gods sided with Spencerville and will head to nearby Cleveland on Friday night.
The opponent: Edison Chargers. Division:Sandusky Bay Lake Division Champions. Record:9-1
Look at Edison:After an impressive 9-1 record long time head coach Jim Hall had his guys run the table in the powerful SBC Lake division. The only loss from the Chargers came in week 7 when they lost to unbeaten Sandusky Perkins a team that is 9-0 and the number one seed in D4 region 14.
Stat leaders: Edison has some of the top leaders in the conference. It all starts with Quarterback Marcus Medina who has fired 12 touchdowns on the season and 67/113 on the season for 853 yards and has yet to throw a interception on the season. Edison also likes to run the football like the Bearcats with Medina for 111 carries for the 1,000 yard mark of 1,007 yards and 14 TDS. The other part of the duo is Cy Finnen. Finnen has 124 carries for 958 yards and 10 touchdowns. Both of those guy’s average 200 total yards on the night together.
However due to injury last week sophomore Grady Smith got his first career start for Spencerville. The young sophomore threw 18/44 for 339 yards against Jefferson and three touchdowns passes. Coulter is closing in on a 1,000 total yards on the season with 504 rushing yards and 420 passing yards.
If the Bearcats want to shock the OHSAA playoff world on Friday night they need to have that balance. Bearcats should get healthy with hopes of getting Zach Looser back and leading tackler Josh Schindler.
